About
The Notre Dame Linux Users Group (NDLUG) is a student club with the mission of promoting the use and awareness of open source projects, including (but not limited to) Linux. At our meetings, club members volunteer to present on an interesting topic related to software, computer science, open source, or whatever they feel compelled to learn more about, and share that information with the club in the form of a slideshow, chalk talk, or workshop. We hope to provide opportunities for anyone interested software to grow in community with their peers, immersion in CS culture, and knowledge in various areas of computing.
If you like computers, you should come to LUG. You might find inspiration for a new personal project. You will definitely meet extremely talented peers who can help you grow. You might even volunteer to present, and finally have an excuse to sit down and learn about that thing you’ve been wanting to dig into more, but never had the time to.
Btw:
- LUG does not collect dues from members.
- LUG often has food at meetings.
- We don’t care what your major is or how experienced you are; if you think a meeting topic is interesting, show up! We’d love to have you.
- All forms of participation are optional. We actually don’t even have a formal way of “becoming a member”. In the spirit of open source, everything is volunteer.
- If you can’t make a meeting, or want to sample some of the content, check the meetings page for thorough notes on everything we cover in person.

We also chat online on Matrix. Matrix is a federated, open-source messaging
platform similar to Slack or Discord. To chat on Matrix, you have to make an
account on a “homeserver”, a self-hosted instance of Matrix that joins a
federated network of other homeservers. LUG hosts a homeserver at
matrix.ndlug.org. You can create an account and chat on our server using a
client application, such as Element. LUG hosts an Element instance at
element.ndlug.org.
