The term “Embedded” is often used to describe a computer which serves a specific
purpose within a larger mechanical/electronic system. Development often involves
working with custom printed circuit boards, microcontrollers, or a system with
reduced compute resources aimed at a specific task rather than general use.
Embedded design is important in industries like robotics, aviation, and any
application where a general operating system is either overkill or undesirable
in the name of efficiency.
